Experience
Before high school, writing and English courses had always intimidated me. It took the efforts of a passionate teacher to increase my confidence in said studies and help me discover that I actually had a knack for it. Expository writing, verbal/written literature analysis, and even creative writing started opening up to me. I ended up snagging 4's on both the AP Language/Literature and Composition tests, going on to pull a 2,050 out of 2,400 on my SAT's. I continued my English studies at Rutgers University, NJ, where I received a Bachelors with Honors in English. During this time, fiction writing grabbed and held my attention. This led to my getting accepted into the graduate creative writing program at St. Mary's College of CA. I received my MFA in Fiction Writing after the two year program. I also not only began both tutoring high school students in English, but also aided college students with their written assignments at the St. Mary's Writing Center. Amongst my classes and workshops, I took two teaching classes: one on pedagogy, and the other on crafting class curriculums. I also spent a semester assistant teaching a film class on Alfred Hitchcock, during which I ran discussion and advised students on their written analyses. I have learned and picked up countless tips and strategies for writing and studying that helped me stay not only on top of my work, but kept me enjoying it as well. What at first made me miserable to even consider has now become one of my deepest passions. I want to help students feel more confident when approaching school subjects. I want to show them that the right strategies can help them both succeed in school and find their passion.

Hobbies
I write short fiction voraciously, crafting worlds and peoples and situations that both startle and pry a chuckle from readers. I hike weekly, and enjoy the occasional rock face to climb up for sweeping views. I am also very fond of billiards and compete weekly in an East Bay billiards league. I find myself lending books to friends and acquaintances in order to later discuss them. Analyzing literature—and other forms of media—is a fantastic way to get to know someone better, become better acquainted with a piece, and expand one's knowledge of the art form and its composition.
