UC Berkeley - BA, Integrative Biology
Experience
I attended the University of California, Berkeley, where I received my bachelor's degree in integrative biology with a focus on human health. While pursuing my degree, I discovered that I had a passion for science and tried to learn as much about various scientific fields as I could. During that time, I also helped tutor my peers who wanted to gain more insight into subjects like chemistry, physics, and biology. In addition, I helped teach biology lab courses for freshmen and tutored high school students in Spanish and a number of science courses. As a tutor, I believe that the best way to help your students succeed is to teach them the fundamentals of the subject so that they're able to apply their knowledge outside of the classroom. I find that this type of method, which focuses on solving problems and overcoming challenges, is far more effective than memorizing answers for upcoming tests. I also believe that everyone has the potential to succeed in science as long as they're taught in a way that works best for them. For this reason, I work to minimize jargon and break down difficult concepts into manageable chunks so that students are less likely to become confused or overwhelmed.
